Mic Mell
Mic Mell is the facilitator of the Future Funk Collective in both recorded and live forms. Mic’s musical journey has included playing organ with Vocalization - a community hip-hop open mic night, keyboardist for reggae artist Rising Lion, playing in organ trios, jazz bands, and a bunch of rock bands He has also spent time touring as a solo electronic artist.
Never content to be a one trick pony, Mic is always searching for new musical experiences, and he is a firm believer that one’s life defines the tone of their art. Mic strives to create music that is not easily pigeonholed by genre but always stays true to a danceable nature, and has attempted to fuse his love of diverse musical tastes with his love for playing instruments by participating in the FFC. He has written and produced over a dozen albums both in collaboration with others and solo, spanning rock, funk, hip hop, jazz, electronic music, dub, reggae, experimental noise, and more.
Mic Mell has toured with Rising Lion, Machinedrum, Team Shadetek, and r_garcia and has opened for Julian Marley, o9, L’usine ICL, Sol.illoquists of Sound, Accellera Deck, and others. He has played shows across the US, including at the Knitting Factory in NYC, MJQ in Atlanta, the Sonic Circuits Festival in D.C., and was a featured solo artist for the 2004 Florida Music Festival.
