Matthew Antolick

Saturn Return (Matthew Antolick) began drumming at an early age, after his mom took him to his first concert ever – Rush’s Grace Under Pressure tour – March 12, 1985. Ever since, Matthew has had a passion for rhythm. He studied percussion throughout his middle and high school career, participated in several concert events, and earned the privilege of playing with Florida’s All-State Band three times.Matthew could never be a completely “schooled? musician, though. At the same time he was developing his skills as a concert percussionist, he was also backing up various local projects on drum set, marimba and experimental multiple-percussion. He earned a scholarship to study percussion at the University of South Florida in Tampa, where he pursued a performance degree for a few years, before deciding to switch his major to Philosophy, in which he earned a B.A in 1998 and an M.A in 2003.

Philosophy and art intermingled, leading Matthew to break away from the scholastic musical approach and to pursue more creative and compositional angles. Matthew played with several prominent experimental groups in the Tampa bay area, including Figure Versus Ground and the Post-Future Quintet. Upon leaving school, he began contracting as a percussionist with several parks in the Central Florida area, including Busch Gardens, Sea World, Disney’s Animal Kingdom and EPCOT where he plays Zendrum with Morockin’, a contemporary Arabic music fusion group. He now resides in Orlando Florida where he continues to freelance with various groups, serves as the drummer for the Future FUnnk Collective and other projects, and plays electronic and experimental music on his Zendrum under the name Saturn Return.
